2026 CBC Summer Internship Graduation Ceremony

On Thursday, August 20, 2026, the Fremont Chamber attended the Citizens for Better Community (CBC) Summer Internship Graduation Ceremony in support of our two CBC summer interns, Emily Fan and Marissa Eng. Emily and Marissa are now Juniors at American High School. They both spent their summer as interns at the Fremont Chamber of Commerce from June through August, 2026.

Here is a list of some of the things that our interns did:

Connection Clubs
As interns, they joined the Chamber at our in-person meetings, called Connection Clubs. Connection Clubs are referral networking clubs, designed to give maximum support and opportunity to Fremont Chamber members who understand the value of networking and doing business with people they know and trust. Interns were able to meet local business professionals and learn more about their businesses.

Mixers and Ribbon Cuttings
They also attended Chamber networking mixers and ribbon cutting ceremonies. A Fremont Chamber after hours networking mixer is a casual social gathering designed for professionals to meet, converse, and build relationships. Interns helped check guests in. Mixers included the Police Department’s meet the police chief mixer and drone show at Lake Elizabeth. Interns help set up the mixers. Ribbon Cutting Ceremonies celebrate one of the most important milestones for a business. Interns helped facilitate successful opening day festivities.

State of the City
Fremont Mayor Raj Salwan presented the annual State of the City Address on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, at the Fremont Downtown Event Center. The free public event highlighted major local milestones, economic updates, and future initiatives shaping the community. Interns helped check in guests, direct visitors and sponsors to their correct location.

Fremont Street Eats
Fremont Street Eats (FSE) is a weekly food truck festival, held from May through October. FSE brings the community together with gourmet food trucks, specialty popup vendors, chamber beer tent. Interns provided social media coverage during FSE. They also helped set up and tear down the Chamber tent.

Fremont Festival of the Arts
The Fremont Festival of the Arts is the premiere art festival in the Bay Area.
Lead-up: Interns cold called vendors to ask for quotes for services, they also called or emailed chamber members who needed to get their membership dues up to date.
Day-Of: Interns helped with signage, delivering festival bucks, and other important duties.

Office Work
Interns spent time organizing, filing, and cleaning the Chamber office. They also did cold-calling to possible Festival of the Arts vendors and reached out to members whose member dues were past due.

The Citizens for Better Community (CBC) in Fremont runs a Youth Internship Program for local youth to work with local government agencies, legislative offices, and community events.

What the interns get:
Communication and Leadership Skills Development.
Exposure to The Legislative Process (Federal, State & Local).
Career development preparation
Opportunity to Work with Legislators to Help Our Community.
Opportunity to get a Recommendation Letter for Future College and/or Job application.

By the end of the program, the interns get:
Community Service-Learning Hours
Certificate of Completion awarded from both CBC and Internship Office at the Annual CBC Interns’ Appreciation Luncheon in November /early December.
Possible a Recommendation Letter from the internship Office.

Qualifications
Students, aged 16 to 18, in the East Bay Tri-City Area.
High school Junior or Senior student with GPA 3.4 or above; College students with GPA 3.25 or above for certain internship assignments. College students must be under 22 years of age.
CBC Membership required (Parents can apply for membership immediately by clicking here)
CBC Trailblazer Youth Leadership Program/Gavel Club experience will be given priority

Requirements
MUST be able to work 3 to 6 hours a week (total of at least 60 hours during summer).
MUST be able to make a 2 – 5 month commitment (to be determined by local government agencies or legislative offices).
MUST write a report describing your experience and service hours at the end of the internship.
MUST attend the interview process. Interviews will be conducted on a rolling basis.
MUST be able to take one training session in Fremont prior internship assignment; date to be determined.
MUST be available to attend orientation and other CBC summer events (e.g. CBC 4th of July parade and CBC summer BBQ event)
MUST have reliable transportation to/from designated internship offices.
