The Fremont area features a variety of things to do and wonderful places to explore. Whatever your age or interests, there’s something to see in and around Fremont.
Fremont-based Music at the Mission presents “out-of-the-box" classical chamber music concerts from October through May. It’s evening concerts are held at the historic Old Mission San Jose and its afternoon concert events are held in beautiful homes within the South Bay and Tri-City Area.
The Cultural Arts Complex in the Gary Soren Smith Center for the Performing Arts brings music, theater and dance performances to the Fremont area. The Fremont Symphony Orchestra performs concerts from September to May.
The Fremont Art Association Gallery presents exhibitions of many local artists. The Olive Hyde Art Gallery offers gallery exhibits introducing an array of traditional and contemporary art.
StarStruck Theatre produces two main stage musicals and one Jr. production each year. Stage 1 Repertory Theater showcases local talent in popular productions. The independent Broadway West Theatre, located in the historic Irvington district, produces five full-length plays each year. Fremont also boasts a new, state-of-the-art Century Theatre complete with all-stadium seating, XD and NextGen amenities.

Niles Depot Museum, once the junction of two major rail lines, is home to the Tri-City Society of Model Engineers and to the Jim Sullivan Memorial Library, which has over 500 books on railroad history. Visitors can experience firsthand a historic railroad excursion on the vintage Niles Canyon Railroad with treks through Niles Canyon and Sunol. The Museum of Local History includes a country store, livery stable, early movies made in Niles and a fossil section.
Fremont Main Library is one of the largest public libraries in northern California. The building is home to the Maurice Marks Center for Local and California History and the Alameda County Business Library. There are three branch libraries in the Centerville, Irvington and Niles districts.

In nearby Niles, every year on the first Saturday in June, visitors can experience Charlie Chaplin and Essanay Studio Day. The annual Niles Antique Fair offers vendors displaying antiques, collectibles and miscellaneous flea market fare. The Ohlone College Super Flea Market also sells trinkets and treasures on Saturday mornings. Old Mission San Jose and Museum features one of 21 historic Franciscan Missions, the only California mission in the East Bay.
A wide variety of community events offer family fun and entertainment. On the first weekend in August, the Annual Fremont Festival of the Arts is the premier event for music and art in the Bay Area. It is the largest outdoor, free festival in all of California and offers events and activities for people of all ages. The Festival of India celebrates the Indian culture with a parade, mela, dance competition, and Bollywood Musical Extravaganza. The annual 4th of July Parade feature spangled excitement with creative floats, specialty units, marching musical units and guest celebrities. A fitting tribute to our nation.
