Fremont offers a wide range of recreational facilities and activities including more than 50 community parks, several community recreational centers, sports facilities, an ice rink, acres of preserved open space and miles of trails. The 450-acre Central Park, with 83-acre Lake Elizabeth at its center, provides tennis courts, sailing and boating, softball and soccer fields, picnic areas, volleyball courts, playgrounds, a skate park, a dog park, a nature center and Aqua Adventure Water Park. A senior citizen center, animal shelter and Fremont Mail Library are also located in or adjoining the park. Notably, Central Park won the 2010 Readers’ Choice Award for “Best Park.”

East Bay Regional Park District (EBRPD) offers a number of parks and wildlife experiences in or very near Fremont. Within the 978-acre Coyote Hills Regional Park are four Ohlone Indian shellmound sites, a recreated Ohlone village, picnic areas, group campsites, the 3.5-mile, paved Bayview Trail and the 12-mile Alameda Creek Trail. A portion of the waters in Coyote Hills are part of the Don Edwards San Francisco Bay National Wildlife Refuge – a 30,000-acre urban refuge that hosts more than 280 species of birds each year and serves as the home of various endangered species. Also part of the EBRPD is Sunol Regional Wilderness, which covers 6,859 acres and provides more than 35 miles of hiking and equestrian trails, campsites, picnic sites and a variety of naturalist-led activities.
In addition to these park sites, Niles Canyon offers scenic beauty, as does Quarry Lakes Regional Recreation Area, along with picnicking, boating, swimming, fishing, hiking and wildlife views. The park’s trail network connects to the Alameda Creek Regional Trail.
For golfers, Fremont Park Golf Center features an executive 2,414-yard, nine-hole course. It also includes a driving range, chipping and putting greens and a clubhouse. For the more adventurous, 2,998-acre Mission Peak Regional Reserve has a 2,517-foot mountain to climb with views of Mount Hamilton to the south, the Santa Cruz Mountains to the west, Mt. Tamalpais to the north, and Mt. Diablo and the Sierra Nevada to the northeast.
